INSTRUCTOR: Arnulfo Jacinto This class is designed for beginner to advanced students who are seeking to express themselves through art while learning and building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Basic life drawing and understanding of the human anatomy will be introduced by using wood figure models, photographs, and other reference materials. Students will work on drawing the skeletal and muscular structures of the human body and will gain an understanding of proportion, scale, and foreshortening. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. Historic Theatre Happy Hour Tour

Spend an evening at the beautifully restored Historic Academy Theatre for a behind the scenes tour of the historic venue, paired with happy hour drink specials and live music performed by local artists.   Historic Theatre Happy Hour Tours are free to attend. Drink specials include $2.00 drafts and $4.00 wine. Tours will begin at 5:30pm and run on a 30-minute schedule.   Tours are capped to 200 attendees.     Sponsored By:       Parking:   Parking is available on-site and throughout downtown Lynchburg. Palates and Palettes A Fundraiser to benefit the Academy Center of the Arts     The Palates and Palettes fundraiser returns to the Academy Center of the Arts this April, but with a twist!   Ticket holders will be able to engage in experiential art and culture at four Academy campus locations. You can hone your improv skills on the Historic Stage, watch a painting come to life in the Harrington Galleries, take part in a photo reveal in our new lobby, and enjoy live music in our outdoor courtyard. Each location and activity will be paired with food and beverage tastings to create a cohesive cultural experience.   Tickets include access to the event, food and beverage tastings, and each experience. INSTRUCTOR: Arnulfo Jacinto *PREREQUISITE OF ONE SESSION (4-CLASSES) OF BEGINNER PAINTING This class is taught by Arnulfo “Arnold” Jacinto, who has years of experience as both an educator and professional artist. In this class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of painting. This class is suitable for intermediate to advanced painting students who have attended at least one session (4-classes) of beginner painting. Students will be taught the principles of color theory, how to apply color theory for practical uses, composition & design, and style & technique. Students will have the opportunity to choose their own subject matter for paintings but will be encouraged to implement specific principles from previous classes, including the use of complementary colors and painting without black paint. Because each student is unique, projects may be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. Although supplies are included, students will be encouraged to bring larger canvases and to consider purchasing their own advanced student or professional grade brushes.
