Art Supply Drive
The arts are working overtime in every community, household, and family as we struggle each day with the pandemic. We listen to music, we watch musicals, we read, we make chalk drawings and playdoh families with our kids. We utilize the arts to support us in a time where the need to connect, find joy, and create hope is at an all-time high. In a time of crisis, we need humanity, expression, and the community that the arts help us to create.
Right now, the arts are more important than ever.
In response to the impact of COVID-19 and in an effort to continue to provide area children access to art experiences, the Academy Center of the Arts has partnered with the Bank of the James and Centra Health to raise funds and donations through an Art Supply Drive program. During these times of uncertainty and financial hardship, the Academy will host an Art Supply Drive with a goal of providing 1,200 children in our community with a kit of supplies and instructions on creating art projects from home.
The Art Supply Drive will run for the month of October, collecting donations on-site and online from a digital ‘wish list’. The Academy will then bag the kits and partner with Lynchburg City Schools to deliver them to students during meal delivery through the school bus routes in November.
As many face the challenges of accessibility to the arts due to the economic hardships, the time to support the arts and arts education is now. “The values we support today will determine what we have when this is over.”
Supporting Arts Education For All
This drive aims to supply students with needed supplies to complete an at-home paint project, entitled ‘Fall Q-Tip Trees‘.
Each student will receive a kit of supplies as well as full step-by-step instructions to complete the project, only requiring students to provide paper towels, water, and a flat surface to paint on.
We are seeking donations of the following products for students to complete this project:
Acrylic Primary Color Paint Set
Plastic Paint Palette
