
The Academy Center of the Arts’ Community Through Theatre organization is hosting open auditions for their summer production of ‘Ragtime, the Musical‘, directed by Joshua Carter.
Synopsis of ‘Ragtime, the Musical’:
Something is stirring at the turn of the 20th century. An African American musician, aristocratic housewife, and Jewish immigrant’s worlds collide as each of them pursue the American dream.
Adult Open Audition Dates:
Thursday, March 15th from 6:30pm – 9:00pm
Friday, March 16th from 6:30pm – 9:00pm
Youth Open Auditions Dates:
Saturday, March 17th from 2:00pm – 3:00pm
**All youth should arrive at 2:00pm
All auditions will be held at the Academy Center of the Arts’ warehouse theatre, 519 Commerce St., in the Lippard Room, found on the lower level of the building.
Available roles:
Mother: A housewife who suddenly seeks something more than the walls of her home on the hill. (30’s)
Father: Mother’s proud and well-o husband. (30-40)
Little Boy: Father and Mother’s son who sees the world explode at the turn of the 20th Century. (8-12)
Younger Brother: Mother’s impressionable younger brother who seeks a sense of purpose. (20’s)
Kathleen: Mother’s maid.
Grandfather: Mother’s father. (60’s 70’s)
People of New Rochelle: White ensemble (play variety of roles)
Coalhouse Walker Jr.: A charismatic piano player from Harlem who struggles with injustice and the American dream. (Black 20s- mid 30’s)
Sarah: A young woman smitten by Coalhouse Walker Jr. and his music. (Black 20’s-mid 30’s)
Booker T. Washington: A black educator and civil rights activist who preaches for equality and justice for all people. (Black 40-50)
People of Harlem: Black ensemble (play variety of roles)
Coalhouse Walker III: Coalhouse and Sarah’s son. (Black 4-5)
Sarah’s Friend: A vivacious woman and confidant.
Tateh: A Jewish immigrant from Latvia who strives to achieve the American dream. (30’s-40’s)
Little Girl: Tateh’s young daughter. (8-12)
Emma Goldman: A dynamic feminist fighting for the rights of the immigrants. (30’s 40’s)
Immigrants: Immigrant ensemble: (play variety of roles)
Willie Conklin: Contentious Irishman with a foul sense of humor. (late 20s-30s)
Firemen: Friends of Willie Conklin who know how to start trouble.
Harry Houdini: The great Illusionist of the 20th century. (20’s-30’s)
Evelyn Nesbit: The scandalously beautiful Vaudeville performer. (20’s)
Chorines: Eervescent chorus girls.
Harry K Thaw: The mad husband of Evelyn Nesbit
Stanford White: Evelyn Nesbit’s lover.
Henry Ford: The advantageous visionary of the Model T. (40’s-50’s)
J. P. Morgan: The wealthy 20th-century banker. (40’s-50’s)
Admiral Peary: The famous explorer.
Matthew Henson: The famous explorer.
