My name is Eric David Kjeseth (E.D.K.) I was born in the United States, in Chicago, but my family traveled extensively to Africa and specifically to Namibia and Zimbabwe, before settling in South Africa. I grew up with the ever changing Africa and its many complexities and transformations over the years. As an artist, I personally enjoy experimenting with a wide variety of techniques and styles, including graphic design, illustration and portraiture. I draw heavily from these international experiences and I am particularly fascinated by modern culture subculture, movies, comic books, science fiction, politics, fantasy, mythology and history as well as the current political climate I find myself enmeshed in.
As an artist, I personally enjoy experimenting with a wide variety of techniques and styles, including graphic design, illustration and portraiture—I don’t really have a set style or technique, as I am still learning and exploring my craft. I personally I endeavor to push boundaries when it comes to my mixed medium work and am constantly exploring new things. My main medium is acrylic paint, often mixed with pastel chalk and charcoal, although I also dabble in printmaking and graphic design. Even though I am exploring new techniques and materials all the time. One thing that remains constant: my love of the tribal aesthetic and African influence in my artwork.
