Charlottesville Ballet Presents: Class with Clara

Experience the magic of “The Nutcracker” with a special event for children ages 3-8! Families will have distanced seating in the historic theater for a mini performance, then children can take to the stage for the interactive “Class with Clara.” Participants will learn introductory ballet steps, take photos with the professional dancers, and dance to the music of Tchaikovsky’s famous Nutcracker ballet.


The Class with Clara has limited occupancy and masks are required for all to protect our youngest patrons. Please be sure to reserve tickets for “Child Participant” for each child who will participate in the class on stage. Theater seating will be general admission in the orchestra section with plenty of room to physically distance. All parents and guests must purchase a ticket — either “Accompanying Family Member” or “VIP Accompanying Family Member” — siblings, grandparents, and friends are encouraged to attend! The VIP seating section will be in the front center rows of the theater and tickets are all-inclusive with custom cocktails and mocktails for all VIP guests at the Academy bar!




1. I have a budding young dancer and his sister who both want to do the class on stage, plus my other family who will come to the event, and we want to sit in the VIP section. What tickets do I need to buy?
Example Family:  Mom, Dad, Grandma, 12 year-old child, 7 year-old child, 4 year-old child
Child Participant = 2 tickets (ages 4 and 7)
VIP Accompanying Family Member = 4 tickets (3 adults plus 1 accompanying sibling)
*All guests in this party can pick their own seats in the VIP section front/center rows right by the stage; each guest will also have complimentary drink tickets for fun holiday cocktails and mocktails to celebrate!


2. Okay– my neighbors said they also want to come see the kids and the mini-performance on December 6, but they don’t want to sit in the VIP section with us. Can they just buy the general admission?

They are welcome to join and will just need to purchase “Accompanying Family Member” tickets for each person in their party ($9 + taxes and fees). Our VIP section will be in the front and center of the stage with the best view and is only for those with VIP tickets, but the whole orchestra level of the theater will be open to patrons to spread out as they feel comfortable during the class…and you can celebrate


3. My 3 year-old wants to do the class, but is shy and doesn’t like wearing a mask. Should I buy her the ticket even if she doesn’t come on stage?
One accompanying parent will be invited to come on the historic theater stage with each participating child, but masks are REQUIRED for all during the class (including the professional dancers) and we will enforce proper masking to keep everyone safe while dancing together and taking pictures. Occupancy for the class is limited and we anticipate selling out early, so we recommend purchasing a “Child Participant” ticket to hold your daughter’s spot and you can take the class with her and help with her mask so that she feels comfortable!

Age Requirement

All patrons, regardless of age, must have a ticket for this performance unless otherwise stated. All ages are welcome.

Camera Policy

Videography and audio recording during the performances are prohibited. Photography of the set on stage is allowed pre-show, post-show, and during intermission. But we do ask that you show our designers and visiting performers some love by crediting them (and by tagging us) in your social media posts.

Content Advisory

The Academy Center of the Arts offers a diverse selection of entertainment. Not all productions may appeal to or be appropriate for every guest or for all ages. Doors Open

Our lobby doors open 60 minutes prior to show time. House doors open 30 minutes prior to show time for seating.

Inclement Weather

All indoor performances scheduled at the Academy Center of the Arts normally take place as planned unless otherwise stated.


Parking is available on-site and throughout downtown Lynchburg. The parking map above shows all of the free public and paid parking available. In addition, street parking is also available on most streets.

Please note: If attending an event or performance after 5pm or on weekends, Lot 2 (Pacific Life Lot) and Lot 12 (Regional Business Alliance) are free and open to for public use. We suggest utilizing these lots, which are closest to the Academy Center of the Arts and within walking distance.

Ticket Policies

All ticket sales are final. There will be NO REFUNDS or exchanges for purchased tickets.

Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. Our delivery methods are as follows:

Print at Home: This option allows you to print your tickets at home or access them on a mobile device via email.

Box Office Pick Up: You may stop by our Box Office, Monday through Friday  12:00pm – 5:00pm, and have us print your tickets for you.

All tickets for this show will be sold through academycenter.org and our ticketing system. Please do not use third-party resellers, as we do not contract with them. Should you use a reseller, the Academy Center of the Arts will not be liable for any issues with your purchase.

All ticket sales are subject to a Historic Theatre Restoration Fee and credit/debit card processing fees.
