Students will learn how to create form through the careful observation of the objects’ tones and colors through medium of pastels.
- Set of 12 basic soft chalk pastels
- 80lb paper or pastel paper, half a sheet (12” x 18”), plus a few extra sheets
- Box of soft vine charcoal
- Extra paper to cut into small pieces for practice
Juliann Godine is an award-winning portrait artist. She teaches art part-time at Appomattox County High School. Previously, she offered classes in pastel and oils for adults and weekly summer art programs for kids at McGuffey Art Center. She has also taught art in Fluvanna County, Albemarle County and taught studio art and photography at the Renaissance School where she was the artist-in-residence.
Ms. Godine’s portraits and paintings reflect her classical training at the New York Academy of Art in New York City, and her work hangs in private and institutional collections including those of Louis Gossett Jr. and the University of Virginia, Rotunda and Medical Center.
Raised in Charlottesville and educated at the University of Virginia, Juliann’s work is well known in the Charlottesville community. She studied and painted in Florence, Italy under the auspices of the Hunter College, New York, foreign study program, and returned to Florence in 1994 to live and paint for a year.
With a strong background in classical drawing, painting and anatomy, and extensive training in photography, Juliann expresses these skills in the rendering of her portrait, still life, and figurative work as well as graphic design.
