Academy Mask Policy – Winter 2022 *updated Jan 5, 2022

Due to the rise in Covid cases in our area, the Academy Center of the Arts requires that all students participating in our classes  regardless of vaccination status wear a mask while on our campus.  All staff are required to wear masks while on site regardless of vaccination status.

In this course, your instructor will use stage presence & monologue techniques to bring the actor present “in the moment” for character-scene work. The class will primarily focus on grounding oneself as an artist before a performance, the importance of the breath ( breathing techniques), and foundational monologue presentation techniques. At the end of the course, students will be equipped with the proper acting tools and techniques to better portray a character and be comfortable with themselves performing, while performance angst will always be there and it is a part of the craft this class will give them tools to make these particular emotions and energy work for them in a given scene or performance.

Greetings! My name is Dijona Brishaé.

Originally from Atlanta, Ga I moved to the city of Lynchburg this Summer of 2021.

I am a Creative Director, Actress, Poet & Screen Writer.

I trained at AMDA LA’s College & Conservatory for the Performing Arts and attained my BFA in Film Acting Summer of 2017. Currently, I am in the creative process of developing my first feature film as a graduate student of AMDA’s MFA degree program for Writing in Theatre & Media. In my previous semester as a graduate student, I had the opportunity to direct my very first ‘virtual’ production, due to the pandemic and it was life-changing.

FUN FACT: I love, love, love diving into the essence of self-discovery when it comes to performance and I am always eager to dive into character work! I believe the shaping of our character and identity as artists directly correlates to how we shape and create the many characters we may be given the opportunity to portray in our world within the Arts.
