HOPEx23 is a second-time in Lynchburg Tedx-style event.  This year’s theme “The Power in Finding Our Why”  will inspire new approaches to how we think about our sense of purpose both personally and communally.  In a TEDx type format, each presenter will give idea-focused talks to provoke conversations surrounding intention and how a defined purpose can catalyze change. Guests will leave informed, inspired, and prepared to embrace the ‘Power in Finding Our Why.’

Mainstage speakers will include • the venerable Leland Melvin – Engineer, educator, NASA astronaut and NFL wide receiver.  Melvin’s narrative of finding his ‘Why’ has motivated listeners across the globe to spark change in their communities • Krissy DeAlejandro – Executive Director,  tnAchieves. DeAlejandro,  grassroots architect of one of the first and most successful statewide Promise scholarship programs and, herself, a first-generation college student, will explore the Whys of so many young people in Tennessee • Dr. Gus Petticolas –as a dentist, a founding member of The Free Clinic of Lynchburg, and a community activist. Petticolas has served the Lynchburg community for decades, and in so explores his own sense of access, opportunity,  the role humility plays in Finding His Why • A wonderful array of short vignettes from Beacon of Hope students and graduates who are exploring their own and our collective Why
