This online class is designed for intermediate students who are seeking to express themselves through art while learning and building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Basic life drawing and understanding of the human anatomy will be introduced by using wood figure models, photographs, and other reference materials. Students will work on drawing the skeletal and muscular structures of the human body and will gain an understanding of proportion, scale, and foreshortening. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. Students will be encouraged to produce at least one illustration that will be suitable for framing.

Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto
Arnulfo, aka “Arnold” or “Nuffy”, is a native of Santa Paula, California, which is located about an hour north of Los Angeles. He has had multiple successes in both the athletic and art fields. He competed in the 1984 Olympics in Sprint Canoe Kayak and later went on to become a National coach at the Olympic Training Centers in Lake Placid, New York and San Diego, California. After working as a firefighter for 7 years, he decided to return to school and graduated from the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Designs with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Arnold went on to work on set designs and became the airbrush supervisor for the motion picture “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and billboard campaigns such as “Godzilla”, “The Mask of Zorro”, “The Gap”, “The Chevrolet Corporation”, and “Wells Fargo”. Arnold was also an art teacher in California, and he designed a curriculum that combines Studios Arts and Art History to prepare students for college level education.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Arnulfo has been involved in the arts for over 50 years. Since moving from Southern California to Lynchburg in 2014, he and his wife Alisa have painted over 80 sets for local theatre productions. He also teaches numerous drawing and painting classes in Lynchburg and Bedford. He has been honored to be voted Lynchburg’s “Best Local Artist” (Gold in 2018, Silver in 2019) in Lynchburg Living magazine. He has also been featured in the 2018 Mar/Apr edition of Lynchburg Living as well as the June 28, 2018 edition of The News & Advance, The Burg.
