Renaissance Theatre an Academy Performance Partner Presents:
Kiss Me Kate
First performed in 1948, Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate involves the production of a musical version of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and the conflict on and off-stage between Fred Graham, the show’s director, producer, and star, and his leading lady, his ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi. A secondary romance concerns Lois Lane, the actress playing Bianca, and her gambler boyfriend, Bill, who runs afoul of some gangsters.
The musical premiered in 1948 and proved to be Porter’s only show to run for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway. In 1949, it won the first Tony Award for Best Musical. One of the most popular American musicals ever produced, the show has had four Broadway revivals, each proving to be as popular and successful as the original.
Renaissance wishes to thank Lynchburg Parks & Recreation, Pack Law Group, and The World of 4T for their continued support of the arts and community theater.
Note that the event producer and Artist may change dates, times, and/or venues depending on the current COVID-19 environment. Ticket buyers will be updated by the Academy Center of the Arts staff, should any change to schedule or venue occurs.
