Met Opera Broadcast in HD:
Manon
The Academy Center of the Arts has just announced the Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcast 19-20 season, featuring Massenet’s Manon on Sunday, 10/27 at 2:00pm in the Historic Academy of Music Theatre.
Exhilarating soprano Lisette Oropesa stars as the irresistible title character, the tragic beauty who yearns for the finer things in life, in Laurent Pelly’s revealing production. Tenor Michael Fabiano is the besotted Chevalier des Grieux, whose desperate love for Manon proves their undoing. Maurizio Benini conducts Massenet’s sensual score.
A co-production of the Metropolitan Opera; Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London; Teatro alla Scala, Milan; and Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. Production a gift of The Sybil B. Harrington Endowment Fund.
The Academy Center of the Arts and Foster Fuels are proud to partner with Opera on the James to offer a pre-screening talk, beginning 45-minutes prior to the screening.
Opera on the James Pre-Broadcast Lectures will be given by Mark Craig. Mr. Craig hails from Michigan. He is a Professor of Voice at the University of Lynchburg where he also teaches Diction, Vocal Pedagogy and Opera Workshop. In recent years, he has served as the Education Director for Lynchburg’s own Opera on the James, working with the Tyler Young Artists, directing and producing Mainstage and Outreach productions. During the summer months, Mr. Craig travels to Taos, New Mexico, where he directs the Young Artist’s Scenes Program for the Taos Opera Institute. He was last seen onstage with OOTJ as Remendado in Carmen in 2015.
At each MET HD Broadcast event, if you leave your business card or name and email you will be entered in a drawing for two (2) tickets to see Amahl and the Night Visitors on December 8, 2019. Drawing by Board President, Lisa Joyner on December 2, 2019.
