With a star-studded cast, full orchestra, sumptuous costumes and beautiful sets, Opera on the James returns to the Academy Historic
Theatre stage with a brand-new production of The Barber of Seville. The show premieres in just under a month and there is much to be excited about.
Unfolding over two acts, the story follows the adventures of the Barber, Figaro, as he assists Count Almaviva in luring breathtakingly beautiful Rosina away from her wretched guardian. This audience-pleasing favorite is full of melodious comedy that will leave audiences understanding exactly why this opera is one of the most popular shows ever written.
The illustrious cast features Hilary Ginther as Rosina, fresh from her successful Hong Kong debut; Metropolitan Opera singer, and brilliant comic Robert McPherson as Count Almaviva; Lynchburg audience favorite Robert Balonek as The Barber; Corey McGee, a rising star who was born in Central Virginia, as Basilio; and Daniel Klein as Dr. Bartolo. Directed by Dean Anthony and conducted by Peter Leonard, this is an event not to be missed.
