Academy Mask Policy – Fall 2021

Any student under the age of 18 will be required to wear a mask for the duration of their camp/class. For any participant age 18+, masks are highly recommended and encouraged regardless of vaccination status.

Painting from life is an excellent way to increase our seeing and painting skills. Doing so enables us to translate the human three dimensional encounter into 2 dimensions. As Richard Schmid (1934 – 2021) wrote, “painting directly from life is about actual human experience as it is happening.”

In this class we’ll use simple flower arrangements so that we may acquire the techniques to finish a painting in one session. Along the way we’ll learn: to paint looser, how to simplify, to paint with less detail, to express what the photo cannot, to incorporate wet on wet and bravura painting methods.

Simple still life flowers in vase still lifes will be provided. Painting-Supply-List-Kenny-Weinfurtner
