Every child is multi-talented and should foster multiple gifts simultaneously. The Building a Show theater Camp will provide students with the opportunity to write, perform, and produce their own short theatrical pieces. Students will implement collaboration, imagination, and performance skills developed in camp to produce a 10-minute piece for a live audience. This camp is working in collaboration with Building Bridges.
Instructors : Dee Brown & Teresa Harris
Dee has written plays and monologues for several productions. His first full production, Climbing the Mountain-Top when there was Nowhere Left to Walk, was picked up by the Black Theatre Ensemble of Virginia. Demonstrating leadership for years, his most important leadership role comes from being both a husband and father. Dee’s mission in life is to advance the perspective of humanity, offering a higher purpose of life through sound decisions… and to inspire the courage to act on personal goals.
Teresa Harris is a poet, playwright, actor, and director. She has written, produced, and directed several original stage plays including From the Valley to the Peak and Still Climbing, The Quincy Armstrong Show, In Remembrance of MLK: From Beyond Vietnam to the Dream, and The Day is Past and Gone: A Trilogy of Slave Life at Poplar Forest. She recently completed work as a co-writer of two screenplays, The Fighting Road and Haitian Day. Teresa’s poetry has appeared in literary magazines and been performed on stage. A strong proponent of community activism, Teresa currently serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations including Building Bridges Productions, Inc. and Many Voices One Community. She is excited about the opportunity to share her love of writing with the young and young at heart.
