Surface decoration techniques can vary widely, from one small mark to many layers. Kat will show you some of her favorite techniques of stamping, slip trailing, and brush work. We will hand build a mug, bowl, or plate and then use her techniques to give your work beautiful surfaces!

Kat Ferguson is a local potter who creates functional art pieces that are used in everyday life. Making pottery is where she is able to find her focus and peace within. Inspiration often comes from gardening and nature, architectural history, and, of course, her kids! Kat moved here after graduating from Virginia Tech to enter into the Cub Creek Foundation. At Cub Creek, she found a love for wood firing, surface decorating, and new glazing techniques, some of which she still uses on her pots today. Kat started teaching at the Academy in 2009 but took a long break to raise her kids. She is very excited to be back teaching again!
