In this class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of painting surrounding the Halloween theme. The class will include lecture and demonstration. While this class is perfect for beginners who are seeking to learn the fundamentals of painting, the lessons and projects will be geared toward individual skill and interest levels and is suitable for intermediate to advanced art students. Students will learn the basics of color theory, proper application of paint, and fundamentals of composition and design. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. Supplies are provided but previous students may be asked to purchase canvases and encouraged to bring a sketchbook (this doesn’t have to be a new one).
Instructor: Christina Davis
Christina Davis is a local muralist and art instructor for Blue Ridge Montessori School and Onward Academy this Spring. She promotes enthusiasm for learning new mediums through popular subject matters like landscapes, strong female figures ,and anime! Her studio pieces have been exhibited at the Academy Center for the Fine Arts and participated in First Fridays on many occasions. She works on numerous community projects to bring more color , accessibility , and diversity through art.
Her passion for expressing her identity led her to become a self taught artist. When she isn’t teaching art, drinking coffee , or spending time with her daughter: She loves to create pieces that reflect her voice, color, and individualism . Her work captures the most fleeting moments, and the way she looks at the world. Focus on most of her series starts with a face or emotion, then she starts improvising during the process, and dark contour lines.
