Pottery Class for High School students. All skill levels welcome, from first-timers to seasoned teen ceramics veterans. Feel clay between your fingertips and explore creating 3-dimensional forms in the round. This class is open to making functional as well as sculptural forms made of wheel-thrown components. Students will learn the process from start to finish – forming, glazing, and firing.
Instructors Ted Batt and Kimberly Gibson-McDonald:
Ted is Director of the Visual Arts Program at the Academy Center of the Arts, which includes the management of the May Carter Pottery Studio. Ted has been working in clay for over 25 years.
Kimberly is a High School Art teacher with a Master’s of Education, thesis based on Inclusion in the classroom and is a National Board Certified Teacher. As an artist, Kimberly creates mixed-media figures, wood boxes, and occasionally paint and create illustrations. Kimberly has had a couple of small shows, and has created designs for t-shirts and events.
Specialties: doll making, secondary art education, which includes teaching these courses: drawing, introductory studio art, drawing, AP Art & Design, Advanced Studio Art , and sculpture.
