In this week-long online art camp, students will create a fun art project each day to learn introductory painting skills:

Monday: Catching Fireflies

Tuesday: Paint with your Veggies! Beet and Carrot – creating natural pigments

Wednesday: Jellyfish and Bubbles

Thursday: Rock Critters – ladybug, bumble bee, caterpillar

Friday: Flip Flops on the Beach

 

After signing up, students will receive a Zoom link to participate in the live class.

 

Gather the following materials at home:

– Bowl of water
– Paper towels
– Painting shirt/apron
– Paper plate/palette paper for mixing paints
– Pencil
– Q-tips (lots!)
– Rubber band
– Toothpick or sharp pencil
– Red, brown, orange and green crayon
– Circular cap or small cup (2 sizes) for creating perimeter of bubbles
– Flat surface to paint on

 

Supplies provided:

– Blue paint, red paint, yellow paint, aqua paint, white paint
– Brush set
– 3 canvas boards
– 2 sheets heavy watercolor paper
– 3 river rocks
– Cut out of flip flops
– Cut out of starfish
– Tea bag (for brown)
– Slice of beet (for red)
– Frozen blueberries (for blue)
– Orange peel (for orange)
– Kale leaf (for green)

 

SUPPLY PICK UP INFO:

Curbside pick up for your art supply bag & bottle of wine will be at the Academy Warehouse Theatre entrance, 519 Commerce St., Lynchburg, VA. See here for directions.

  • Pick up time is Friday, June 19, 4:30 – 6:00pm.
  • Please pull up to the Warehouse Entrance – stay in your car – and an Academy staff member will bring your bag out to you. 
  • After registering for the class, a phone number will be provided for patrons to call during pick up to notify Academy staff of your arrival.

Instructor: Sarah Proctor

Sarah Proctor is the Special Events and Corporate Rentals Manager with the Academy. Prior to joining the team at the Academy, Sarah worked in various roles at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA. In between her work for the VMFA and the Academy Center of the Arts, she has enjoyed time at home raising her two daughters.
In 2004, Sarah graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Interior Design. In 2011, Sarah earned her MA in Art/Architectural History from Virginia Commonwealth University. The arts have remained an important part of her personal and professional life.  She enjoys the opportunity to show her children how art can bring such joy and creativity to every moment!
