Academy Mask Policy – Winter 2022 *updated Jan 5, 2022
Due to the rise in Covid cases in our area, the Academy Center of the Arts requires that all students participating in our classes regardless of vaccination status wear a mask while on our campus. All staff are required to wear masks while on site regardless of vaccination status.
Students will be exploring a new artist each week, and then doing a project inspired by that artist’s style. Such artists may include: Hannah Hoch, Mary Cassatt, Augusta Savage, or Frida Kahlo. In this course your student will work with a variety of media and technique. All supplies are provided.
Instructor: Jennifer Mancier
Jennifer Mancier grew up in Detroit in the eighties. Her father was a school teacher, and on his summers off he would take their family on four week-long educational road trips from one coast of the country to the other. Her mother was constantly pointing out birds and flowers and showed her how to find beauty in the simple things.
To this day, Jennifer’s artwork reflects a certain childlike whimsy and fascination with the natural world. People, animals, and elements from nature are often the topics of her paintings and illustrations.
Jennifer went on to graduate from Liberty University in 2001 with a degree in Biology/Psychology and Elementary Education. She later began a masters in Art Therapy at Wayne State University.
Jennifer has taught elementary education and integrated the arts for over 7 years. She has taught private art lessons and group lessons around her kitchen table. She co-owned The Gypsy Art Bar, where she hosted paint parties, and has done art-as-therapy workshops in the community and abroad.
Jennifer presently resides in the city of Lynchburg with her husband, their three sons, and their energetic Aussiedoodle. She continues to do custom paintings, portraits and commissions and loves sharing her knowlege of the arts with children of all ages.
