Instructor: Rosalie Day-White Don’t be afraid to try a new medium! Students with varying skill levels will learn how to paint with oils and/or acrylics in this 6 week class. Instructor: Laura Watts Discover one of art’s most exciting and creative mediums! Using fall leaves as inspiration, we will begin with a basic foundation in alcohol inks and explore our way to making exciting and colorful compositions! Even learn how to make your own ink at home. Come play! Students are encouraged to bring faux leaves, photographs of leaves, or simply share in what our instructor will have for observation. All supplies provided. Pictured artwork by Karen Wysopal. Artist Bio: Laura Watts is a former high school art teacher, graphic designer, and interior decorator. She currently, along with her husband Woody, own several creative based businesses (including ghost hunting). If you can’t find her crafting, soap making, or hand lettering, you may find her strolling along the avenue with her pups Ellie & Frances. Laura loves partnering with the Academy because of the tools, opportunities, and inspiration it brings to the community.

Instructor: Kenny Weinfurtner This class offers an exciting way to draw for artists of any ability level. Here we learn about pen points and inks, papers, brushes and composition. We practice such techniques as washes, dry brush, line, and tonal hatching just to name a few. Drawing in pen & ink will add a new dimension to your art skills. All materials provided by the Academy. Artist’s Bio: Kenneth Weinfurtner holds a BFA in Studio Art and a BA in Art History from the University of Kentucky. He earned an MFA in Studio Art from Radford University. Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto In this class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including different grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. All supplies included. Artist’s Bio: Arnulfo, aka “Arnold” or “Nuffy”, is a native of Santa Paula, California, which is located about an hour north of Los Angeles.  He has had multiple successes in both the athletic and art fields. He competed in the 1984 Olympics in Sprint Canoe Kayak and later went on to become a National coach at the Olympic Training Centers in Lake Placid, New York and San Diego, California.  After working as a firefighter for 7 years, he decided to return to school and graduated from the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Designs with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.  Arnold went on to work on set designs and became the airbrush supervisor for the motion picture “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and billboard campaigns such as “Godzilla”, “The Mask…

Join Artist Steve Rogers from Florida for a unique opportunity to learn in his advanced watercolor workshop! “I believe I can most honestly say what I want to with my brush and ‘juicy’ watercolor paint.” – Steve Rogers Beginners and advanced painters alike will learn about light and color and the way watercolor behaves through “mini-demos” of paint application, “dealing with dark values in watercolor”, “secrets of painting reflections” etc. and how these operate in Steve’s full painting demonstrations. Students who are seeking to paint a convincing representation will advance substantially in his workshop, while those who wish to attain a higher degree of insight into their subjects will also be pleased. Lots of student painting time along with personal help is available every day. Instructor: Anna Ellis Go ahead and get a little dirty on Friday night! Couples, singles, and friends are welcome to join us at The Academy Center of the Arts Pottery Studio for an evening of fun, romance and hand building a clay project. Instructor Anna Ellis will walk you through the simple steps of making a Holding Hands Dish. Beer, wine, light snacks, clay and tools are included. Wear or bring clothes to change into that you don’t mind getting dirty. Preregistration is required.
