VMFA Artmobile

  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts' Artmobile     Come out and experience the VMFA Artmobile in the courtyard of the Historic Academy Theatre! The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Artmobile is a state-of-the-art traveling museum and art studio. VMFA on the Road currently features the exhibition How Far Can Creativity Take You: VMFA Fellowship Artists, which celebrates the role VMFA has played in the lives of fellowship recipients.   Academy Presents: Shmuel Ashkenasi & Katharina Kang with Forte Chamber Music Ensemble     The Academy Center of the Arts and Forte Chamber Music are proud to present world-renowned Violinist Shmuel Ashkenasi & Violinist/Violist Katharina Kang as they perform with the Forte Chamber Music Ensemble in the Historic Academy Theatre on Friday, November 15, 2019, at 7:30PM.   The duo will perform with a 16-member chamber orchestra, comprised of local and regional musicians, including Alexandra Takasugi, Andrew Gabbert, Angelia Gandolfo, Ben Wyatt, Ed Mikenas, Eliz Vonderheide, Fitz Gary, Jaren Atherholt, Jessica Warren, Julian Taylor, Luca Trombetta, Marilyn Marks Taylor, Naomi Amos, Stephen Slater, Wanchi Huang, and Yevgeniy Dovgalyuk. Remaining tickets will be released to the public on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.     About the Show:   Best of the Eagles (BOTE) was established in 2012 by guitarist/vocalist Joe Vadala and a group of professional musicians who individually have an auspicious pedigree, are passionate about their love of the Eagles music and who have all worked with numerous national touring artists. Tour with special guests The Imaginaries     BRIAN SETZER FORCED TO CANCEL PERFORMANCE IN LYNCHBURG, VA DUE TO INJURY   Under doctor’s orders, iconic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and three-time Grammy-Award winner Brian Setzer has been forced to cancel his 16th annual “Christmas Rocks! Tour” by The Brian Setzer Orchestra due to a severe case of tinnitus. This includes his November 23, 2019 performance at the Academy Center of the Arts’ Historic Academy Theatre in Lynchburg, VA.   The over 20-city annual and critically acclaimed holiday extravaganza by SETZER and 19-piece ORCHESTRA was his best-selling Christmas tour to date and set to start this week, running from November 15 in Minneapolis through December 21 in Los Angeles.   Setzer says he deeply regrets this inconvenience to his fans and thanks them in advance for their love and support.   “It’s heartbreaking to disappoint my fans who have shared my Christmas seasons with me for over fifteen years,” says SETZER. “I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused all of the amazing people who make my tour happen and to my unbelievably loyal and devoted fans.  I hate…

  Met Opera Broadcast in HD: Akhnaten     The Academy Center of the Arts has just announced the Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcast 19-20 season, featuring Glass' Akhnaten on Sunday, 11/24 at 12:55pm in the Historic Academy of Music Theatre.   Director Phelim McDermott tackles another one of Philip Glass’s masterpieces, following the now-legendary Met staging of Satyagraha. Star countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo is the title pharaoh, the revolutionary ruler who transformed ancient Egypt, with the striking mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges in her Met debut as his wife, Nefertiti. To match the opera’s hypnotic, ritualistic music, McDermott has created an arresting vision that includes a virtuosic company of acrobats and jugglers.
