For more information or to register for the full conference, which includes Lunch with Lulu Miller, click here.     The Academy Center of the Arts invites you to join us on Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 12:00pm - 1:30pm in the Joy and Lynch Christian Warehouse Theatre for Lunch with Lulu Miller of NPR's Invisibilia!   Lulu Miller is a Peabody-Award winning science reporter for National Public Radio. She is the co-founder of NPR's Invisibilia, and a founding producer of Radiolab. She reports on disability, mental health, and occasionally, on insects.   Academy Presents: Aquila Theatre's Frankenstein   Tickets for this event will be released to members January 17, 2019. Remaining tickets will be released to the public on January 25, 2019.     Written two centuries ago in 1818 by Mary Shelley, FRANKENSTEIN: The Modern Prometheus, is the first true science fiction novel. Years ahead of its time, the story has since become the inspiration for countless film and stage adaptations. Frankenstein is a living, breathing, gruesome outcome of scientific discovery. The piece raises an important universal question about the nature of innovation- just because it can be done, should it be done?   Victor Frankenstein is a Swiss scientist with a mission to create an artificial human. Without considering the consequences of such progress, he succeeds with terrifying results. After wandering the world alone, the monster eventually comes for Frankenstein’s family. Horrific events unfold until the doctor tentatively agrees to create a mate for the creature. Ultimately, the doctor refuses in an effort to spare humanity but bears the terrible and personal penalties of his decision. Two hundred years later, Frankenstein still poses a myriad of critical ethical questions.   Warehouse Concert Series: North Mississippi Allstars     Join the Academy Center of the Arts, BWX Technologies, Inc., and Moore & Giles for the North Mississippi Allstars, a southern rock and blues band straight from Hernando, Mississippi, as they perform as a part of the Warehouse Concert Series on Friday, April 5, 2019, in the Warehouse Theatre.   Tickets to this event are on sale for $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Spring flowers will need vases: Instructor Anna Ellis will teach students how to make a vase shaped like a Rain Boot! REFUND POLICY Classes without sufficient enrollment by the registration deadline will be canceled. Fees are 100% refundable for classes canceled by the Academy. 85% of class fees will be refunded if you cancel a week or more before the start of class.  If the withdrawal notice is received within one week (7 days) of the class’s first meeting, then there are no refunds issued. PHOTO POLICY The Academy Center of the Arts may use photos of students taken during class or events for any marketing promotions including print, web, social media, and video productions.  If you or your child wish to not be included please inform the instructor with written notice at the first meeting. Gem Stone Bud Vases!   Go ahead and get a little dirty on Friday night! Couples, singles, and friends are welcome to join us at The Academy Center of the Arts Pottery Studio for an evening of fun, romance and hand building. Instructor Anna Ellis will lead you in making a little gem to remember your special Date night in the pottery studio! Beer, wine, light snacks, clay and tools are included. Wear or bring clothes to change into that you don’t mind getting dirty. Preregistration is required.   Met Opera LIVE in HD: Die Walkure     The Academy Center of the Arts continues the Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcast series, featuring Wagners's Die Walkure on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 2:00pm in the Historic Academy Theatre.   The Academy is excited to offer HD Broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera's performances throughout the year in the Historic Academy of Music Theatre. Stay tuned for the upcoming schedule of Met Opera performances in 2019.   Speaker: Peter Leonard   Peter spent 20 years conducting full-time in Germany.  He says: “I went there with the hope of conducting more Wagner, and I did!  I’ll never forget the first time that I completed my first “Ring Cycle” (today’s opera is the second part of this massive tetralogy).  Die Walküre is the most popular opera in the Cycle.  Its story is deeply human: a father’s love for his children conflicts with his lust for power and his duty to the laws which he himself has created.
