Art for Autism

October 29 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm / Each Monday, until December 3.
Peggy Burruss Art Studio, 519 Commerce Street
Lynchburg, VA 24504 United States
Register By: October 25
Ages: 6 - 10

Art can open up a whole new world for someone by providing an outlet for one to communicate feelings. We’re excited to offer an arts and crafts class at the Academy where children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other special needs can come and create sensory stimulating artwork. Students will be involved with center work and receive one on one instruction from our educator. About the instructor: Crystal Redman received her BA in Studio Art from Liberty University. Her inspiration to study art and Autism stemmed from her brother being diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum at the age of 6. They connected with a love for drawing and that became a positive method of communicating when he struggled to find the words to say. Crystal’s two sons are also on the spectrum, so she has a personal connection and understands the importance of IEP’s, therapy animals, aides, and more. She has been substituting through Lynchburg City Schools with the Laurel Regional Program as well as a few elementary schools. We’re thrilled to have her join the Academy team in offering this new program for students on the spectrum or with special needs.
