Family Saturday Clay Day: Let it Snow Mugs

Instructor Anna Ellis will help students make mugs just in time for a hot beverage on a cold day! REFUND POLICY Classes without sufficient enrollment by the registration deadline will be canceled. Fees are 100% refundable for classes canceled by the Academy. 85% of class fees will be refunded if you cancel a week or more before the start of class.  If the withdrawal notice is received within one week (7 days) of the class’s first meeting, then there are no refunds issued. PHOTO POLICY The Academy Center of the Arts may use photos of students taken during class or events for any marketing promotions including print, web, social media, and video productions.  If you or your child wish to not be included please inform the instructor with written notice at the first meeting. Crowd scenes or group photos are exempt.

  The Academy Presents: Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn *SOLD OUT SHOW*   Tickets for this event will be released to members October 3 - 10, 2018. Remaining tickets will be released to the public on October 11, 2018.     Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn, “the king and queen of the banjo” (Paste Magazine), have a musical partnership like no other. Béla Fleck is a fifteen-time Grammy Award winner who has taken the instrument across multiple genres, and Abigail Washburn a singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo player who re-radicalized it by combining it with Far East culture and sounds. The two met at a square dance, began collaborating musically and eventually fell in love. Over the years, they played together most visibly in the Sparrow Quartet alongside Ben Sollee and Casey Driessen and informally at a pickin’ party here, a benefit there, or occasionally popping up in each other’s solo shows.   Met Opera Broadcast in HD: Adriana Lecouvreur   The Academy Center of the Arts has just announced the first Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcast of the year, featuring Francisco Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur on Sunday, January 20th at 2:00pm in the Historic Academy of Music Theatre.   The Academy is excited to offer HD Broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera's performances throughout the year in the Historic Academy of Music Theatre. Stay tuned for the upcoming schedule of Met Opera performances in 2019.     The Academy Center of the Arts and Foster Fuels are proud to partner with Opera on the James to offer a pre-screening talk, beginning one hour prior to the screening of Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcast of Adriana Lecouvreur, on Sunday, January 20th at 1:00pm.   Opera on the James' principal conductor, Peter Leonard, will lead the pre-screening talk prior to Adrianna Lecouvreur from the stage of the Historic Academy of Music Theatre.   Peter lived and worked in Germany for 20 years. He was Intendant (Artistic Director) of the Volkstheater Rostock and the North German Philharmonic from 2008-2014. Workshop: Plaster Forms and Clay

Learn how to create plaster texture slabs and drop molds to expand your clay forms. Participants will create two (2) one piece forms out plaster for personal studio exploration and one (1) piece to aid in the studios community development.  These forms will further the vocabulary of the hand-built clay form. The forms themselves will be created through the use of found objects sculpted forms. One day class with instructor, Justin Rice     REFUND POLICY 1. Through improv the students will learn how to be a team player, and find self-confidence by just having fun! No previous experience required. Whether interested in comedy, looking to break out of your shell, or just looking to have a good time, this class is for you! Students will focus on how to be a team player through basic improv games, they will do exercises to build character work, and will learn how to build on existing scenes.   City Strings     Lynchburg City School (LCS) Strings, grades kindergarten through middle school, will give three performances of City Strongs on Friday, February 1, 2019 in the Academy’s Joy and Lynch Christian Warehouse Theatre. Performance times are 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 pm. Each performance has students from one middle school and three to five elementary schools.  The program includes Suzuki repertoire, patriotic and fiddle tunes. The LCS Suzuki String program is now in its 48th year. Suzuki in the elementary schools prepares the students for orchestra in middle and high schools.
