This October, the Academy is thrilled to join The Big Draw Festival to promote this year’s theme: “Drawn to Life: Creativity and Well-Being” in an effort to celebrate and explore art’s ability to provide hope, healing, positive change, and both mental and physical well-being to the whole person. The event will be free and open to all families and former and current breast cancer patients in the community. Please register through the link above so that we can have a head count. “Founded in 2000, The Big Draw (formally The Campaign for Drawing) is an arts education charity that promotes visual literacy and the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention. Instructor: Rosalie Day-White Drawing, watercolor and/or acrylic painting techniques will be used for rendering still life, nature scenes and landscapes. Join us to grow your creative studio skills! All supplies included. Artist’s Bio: Rosalie Sunderland Day-White received her B.A. and M.Ed. from Lynchburg College, in Virginia. She attended the Washington Studio School in Washington, DC and undertook independent study in Paris, France on three occasions. Her work has been exhibited in venues such as, Courtyard Gallery in Washington DC, Wichita Center for the Arts, Kansas, The Chrysler Museum, Norfolk Virginia, Purdue University Galleries, and L’Hermitage, Rueil-Malmaison, France. It is included in private and corporate collections in the United States, Germany and France. Ms. Day-White is one of the Founders of The Beverly Street Studio School in Staunton, Virginia. Her excellence as a teacher earned her a listing in Who’s Who among America’s Teachers for two different years and she was selected Virginia Governor’s School Outstanding Educator three times. She was chosen to represent the City of Lynchburg, Virginia in an artistic exchange exhibition with its sister city in France. Currently, she teaches painting at Art on 12th and The Academy Center of the Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto In this class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including different grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. All supplies included. Artist’s Bio: Arnulfo, aka “Arnold” or “Nuffy”, is a native of Santa Paula, California, which is located about an hour north of Los Angeles.  He has had multiple successes in both the athletic and art fields. He competed in the 1984 Olympics in Sprint Canoe Kayak and later went on to become a National coach at the Olympic Training Centers in Lake Placid, New York and San Diego, California.  After working as a firefighter for 7 years, he decided to return to school and graduated from the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Designs with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts.  Arnold went on to work on set designs and became the airbrush supervisor for the motion picture “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and billboard campaigns such as “Godzilla”, “The Mask…
