Instructor: Rosalie Day White Don’t be afraid to try a new medium! Students with varying skill levels will learn how to paint with oils and/or acrylics in this 6 week class. Work with still life, landscapes and the figure. Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto In this class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including different grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. All supplies included. Artist’s Bio: Arnulfo, aka “Arnold” or “Nuffy”, is a native of Santa Paula, California, which is located about an hour north of Los Angeles.  He has had multiple successes in both the athletic and art fields. He competed in the 1984 Olympics in Sprint Canoe Kayak and later went on to become a National coach at the Olympic Training Centers in Lake Placid, New York and San Diego, California.  After working as a firefighter for 7 years, he decided to return to school and graduated from the University of Southern California’s Roski School of Art and Designs with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Instructor: Kenneth Weinfurtner Portrait Painting is challenging, exciting and rewarding. Painting portraits require exacting skills, learned in this class, that all painters will find useful for all subject matter. Using a limited palette, the class will focus on zones of color, proportions & perspective of the head, edges, brush techniques, specialized palettes, portrait painting steps, facial features, expression and capturing a likeness. Each class will begin with a learning objective and critique, and then proceed to working with a live model. Instructor: Laura Eagle Watts Brush Pen Calligraphy provides a terrific, no fuss way to get started with hand lettering. In this class we will explore the fundamentals of brush pen basics and the basic supplies you need to get started. Create your own beautiful and personal style of brush pen lettering as you work your way through this workshop. At the end of this class, and with plenty of practice, you will definitely gain the tools necessary to develop an aesthetic brush pen lettering style all your own! We are thrilled to offer a performance opportunity for students previously in the Academy’s youth programs who are now in college and/or are young adults. This cast will be performing in our Historic Academy of Music Theatre. Students will need to sign up to audition for this show using the register button. If cast they will be given the registration link for payment. _________________________________________________ Audition information: Students will only need to attend one of the audition dates. April 24 from 6-9pm or April 25 from 10am-1pm. All students need to prepare 32 bars from a jazz song. If auditioning in person, you will have a choreography portion at auditions. Students who are out of town will have the opportunity to submit an audition video singing 32 bars of a jazz song as well as 60 seconds of a jazz or hip hop dance number. Those students still need to sign up using the SignUp Genius link under ‘video submission sign-up’ and email the video prior to April 24 to kposenauer@academycenter.org. Instructors: Kirsten Donohue & Anna Ellis In this week-long art and pottery camp, young artists will create artwork inspired by the masters, including Georgia O’Keefe, Wolf Kahn, De Grazia, and Roberta Rogers. Painting projects will include sunflowers, deserts, forests, and patchwork landscapes! Students will also learn hand-building skills in the pottery studio to create projects such as Mexican floral tile plates, Monet water lilies bowl, American folk face jug, and Matisse cutout candle holder.
