Beginner Painting

Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto In this class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of painting. The class will include lecture and demonstration. While this class is perfect for beginners who are seeking to learn the fundamentals of painting, the lessons and projects will be geared toward individual skill and interest levels and is suitable for intermediate art students. Students will learn the basics of color theory, proper application of paint, and fundamentals of composition and design. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. All supplies are included.

Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto This class is designed for beginner to advanced students who are seeking to express themselves through art while learning and building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Basic life drawing and understanding of the human anatomy will be introduced by using wood figure models, photographs, and other reference materials. Students will work on drawing the skeletal and muscular structures of the human body and will gain an understanding of proportion, scale, and foreshortening. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. Students will be encouraged to produce at least one illustration that will be matted and suitable for framing. Instructor: Michelline Hall Young children will love this art camp as they create artwork inspired by children’s storybooks. The instructor will begin each day with story time, reading a fun, engaging picture book, followed by an art project that applies techniques and life lessons found in the book. Throughout the week, kids will hear stories including Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Crockett Johnson, The Most Magnificent Thing, by Ashley Spires, and How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, by Marjorie Priceman. *Students must be toilet-trained.

Middle and High School students will learn and perform a play (non-musical) after two weeks of rehearsals along with participating in various theatre classes. This camp will be performing in our Historic Academy of Music Theatre. ___________________________________________ Auditions are Wednesday, July 24 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. We will send audition information closer to auditions.  ______________________________________________________ ABOUT THE SHOW: One of literature’s most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry, is back — braces, stubbornness and all. In this class we will explore the fundamentals of brush pen basics and the basic supplies you need to get started. Create your own beautiful and personal style of brush pen lettering as you work your way through this workshop. At the end of this class, and with plenty of practice, you will definitely gain the tools necessary to develop an aesthetic brush pen lettering style all your own! To be put on the waiting list, please contact Kelly at kposenauer@academycenter.org. ______________________________________________ Students will go from auditions to performance in just five days with Compass Creative Dramatics, a Chicago-based touring theatre who will be hosting a week-long theatre residency at the Academy. Students in grades 1 – 12 will stretch their creativity and bravery muscles through daily rehearsals for Peter Pan. Students also perform alongside two professional actors during the week and will participate in acting classes from those directors in the afternoon! No acting experience necessary – just come ready to be silly and have fun! This camp will be rehearsing and performing in our Joy and Lynch Christian Warehouse Theatre. ___________________________________________ ABOUT THE SHOW: An abandoned baby. A crew of cheeky monkeys.
