Family Saturday Clay Day: Leaf Ceramics
Leaf Plates – Paint real leaves and roll them into your clay cut out and assemble a beautiful bowl with all the colors of fall. Instructor is Anna Ellis. Parents are encouraged to attend the class with their child or children, or you can drop them off! REFUND POLICY 1. Classes without sufficient enrollment by the registration deadline will be canceled. Fees are 100% refundable for classes canceled by the Academy. 2. 85% of class fees will be refunded if you cancel a week or more before the start of class. If the withdrawal notice is received within one week (7 days) of the class’s first meeting, then there are no refunds issued. Find out more »Raku Workshop with Brett Thomas, Mobile Raku
The Academy Center of the Arts is pleased to partner again with Brett Thomas of Mobile Raku in hosting a one day Raku workshop on Saturday, September 29 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 pm at the Academy Center of the Arts. Class size is limited to 20 students, and each student may bring 4-5 pieces (raku clay only bisque cone 06), approximately 5” wide x 12” tall or smaller. Tiles are acceptable however NO BOWLS OR SLABS. If time allows, additional pieces may be fired after everyone has had a turn. Brett will provide his glazes and materials for firing. Please register early; pieces need to made and bisque fired before September 27. One day class tuition is $80 which includes a 25lb bag of raku clay. Student currently not enrolled in Academy Center pottery classes will have access to the studio to make their pieces. Unused raku clay from this class can be saved for the next Raku workshop! While this class is designed for beginner to advanced students who are seeking to express themselves through art while learning and building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Basic life drawing and understanding of the human anatomy will be introduced by using wood figure models, photographs, and other reference materials. Students will work on drawing the skeletal and muscular structures of the human body and will gain an understanding of proportion, scale, and foreshortening. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. Go ahead and get a little dirty on Friday night! Couples, singles, and friends are welcome to join us at The Academy Center of the Arts Pottery Studio for an evening of fun, romance and hand building in clay. Come out for a spooky Friday night and make sugar skull lanterns with our skilled instructor, Anna Ellis! Beer, wine, light snacks, clay and tools are included. In this fun and fully interactive class, learn to make your won mosaic art pieces with instructor, Kim Clarke. We will be working using the direct method. Choose from several project bases (mirror, address number plaques, frames, etc.). All bases and materials are included, along with colored glass, adhesives and grout. Use the wide array of colored glass and mirror tiles provided or bring in your own tiles, bases and other fun items that can be used in mosaics. Great for beginners. **A $15 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class.
