Instructor: Kirsten Donohue and Pottery instructor TBD In this week-long art and pottery camp, young artists will create artwork inspired by the masters, including Georges Seurat, Claude Monet, George Rodrigue, and Jasper Johns. Projects will include pointillism painting, water lilies, poplar trees, blue dog art, and collage American flags! Students will also learn hand-building skills in the pottery studio to create similarly inspired projects.

Summer of Rock

For two weeks, young musicians in beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels will be placed into bands and given private instruction and group lessons from talented local musicians. Students will choose their instrument and each rock band will consist of up to 5 band members playing keyboard, bass guitar, electric guitar, drums, and vocals. Students will improve their talents individually and collectively as they learn to jam in groups and prepare performances. Summer of Rock will end with a live student rock show in the Academy Historic Theatre! Using our SignUpGenius by clicking the Register link, please sign up for the instrument you wish to audition for. After auditions, instructors will place students into beginner, intermediate, and advanced level rock bands. If your child is placed into a band, you will then receive registration and payment information. Thank you!

Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto In this class, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including different grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level.

Disney’s Newsies The Broadway Musical

Encore features a four week comprehensive program for ages 14-18, designed to help youth learn the art and craft of theatre in a challenging and collaborative atmosphere. Students will participate in musical theatre classes in addition to rehearsing the show. This camp will be rehearsing and performing in our Historic Academy of Music Theatre. ______________________________________________________ Auditions are Monday, May 6 from 6:30 – 9:30pm. We will send audition information closer to auditions.  ______________________________________________________ ABOUT THE SHOW: Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right! Yuki’s Journey

Instructor: TBD In this inspiring children’s production, young actors will experience introductory theatre skills by bringing author Joseph J. Krakora’s storybook, Yuki’s Journey, to life. Set during the earthquake and tsunami of 2011 in Japan, Yuki’s Journey is the story of a boy named Aki and his puppy, Yuki. After Yuki is given to Aki for his fifth birthday, in addition to a Japanese jacket and a big red box bull of animal masks, the two become separated when the tragic storm strikes. Determined to reunite with Aki, Yuki embarks on a journey to find the boy with the wise guidance of other animals along the way. Inspired by the spirit of the Japanese people, Yuki’s Journey is a heartfelt story sure to bring a message of hope, love, and perseverance to all audiences. Students will be assigned characters and given roles in this play to be performed on the last day of camp for family and friends.

Tiny Animal Kingdom

Instructor: Mariannette Oyola-Perez In this week-long art camp, instructor Mariannette, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, will teach children to use polymer clay and push their imaginations by designing and sculpting their own animal characters! This easy-to-use clay does not air dry and will harden only when baked. Students will begin by following tiny animal sculpting tutorials, followed by drawing designs for their animals and forming them out of polymer clay. Once the instructor has baked the students’ sculptures, the young artists may paint them and/or transform them into interactive keepsakes such as necklaces or keychains!

Encore Jr. is a two week theater program for middle schoolers! At the end of 2 weeks, students present performances of a popular family musical. Everyone who participates in the camp will have a role but there will be auditions will be held for specific parts. Instructor: Michelline Hall and Pottery Instructor TBD In this one-week art and pottery camp, young artists will create works of art centered around all things nature! Among other projects in the art studio, students will learn simple printmaking using real plants and flowers, use nature items as drawing prompts, and turn rocks into animal and plant friends. Projects for the pottery studio include animal/floral pinch pot planters and clay nature prints. Children will be encouraged to see the exciting, artistic beauty the great outdoors has to offer!
