We are thrilled to offer a performance opportunity for students previously in the Academy’s youth programs who are now in college and/or are young adults. This cast will be performing in our Historic Academy of Music Theatre. Students will need to sign up to audition for this show using the register button. If cast they will be given the registration link for payment. _________________________________________________ Audition information: Students will only need to attend one of the audition dates. April 24 from 6-9pm or April 25 from 10am-1pm. All students need to prepare 32 bars from a jazz song. If auditioning in person, you will have a choreography portion at auditions. Students who are out of town will have the opportunity to submit an audition video singing 32 bars of a jazz song as well as 60 seconds of a jazz or hip hop dance number. Those students still need to sign up using the SignUp Genius link under ‘video submission sign-up’ and email the video prior to April 24 to kposenauer@academycenter.org. Please note that week 1 rehearsals are from 10am – 6:30pm. Instructors: Kirsten Donohue & Anna Ellis In this week-long art and pottery camp, young artists will create artwork inspired by the masters, including Georgia O’Keefe, Wolf Kahn, De Grazia, and Roberta Rogers. Painting projects will include sunflowers, deserts, forests, and patchwork landscapes! Students will also learn hand-building skills in the pottery studio to create projects such as Mexican floral tile plates, Monet water lilies bowl, American folk face jug, and Matisse cutout candle holder.

The Addams Family

Cost: $450 before April 6 | $475 after April 6 _________________________________________________ This camp for high schoolers features a four week comprehensive program for rising 9th graders – 18, designed to help youth learn the art and craft of theatre in a challenging and collaborative atmosphere. Students will participate in musical theatre classes in addition to rehearsing the show. This camp will be rehearsing and performing in our Historic Academy of Music Theatre. Auditions are May 12 from 5:30-8:30pm and Callbacks (if needed) are May 13 from 5:30-8:30pm. _________________________________________________ ABOUT THE SHOW: THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. The Addams Family – Orchestra Pit

We’re excited to open up auditions for high school students to be a part of our Addams Family orchestra pit this summer!  High School students with experience in various instruments, especially those who have played in pits before are strongly encouraged to audition for this program. The Addams Family camp will be in session June 1 – 26 from 10am-4pm but the orchestra pit will have a varying schedule during that time, mostly during tech week. Shows for this camp are June 26 at 7pm, June 27 at 7pm and June 28 at 2pm. Please submit your resume with performing experience, particularly in pits, to the email below. Audition videos should include: One classical (technical) excerpt, and one groove-based excerpt (such as pop, swing, jazz, funk, gospel, etc.)  The video should be approximately 5 minutes in length. Audition videos and resume are due MAY 15 and need to be emailed to Kelly Posenauer at kposenauer@academycenter.org.

PreTeen Painting

Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto In this camp, students will have the opportunity to express themselves through art while building upon the basic principles and foundations of painting. The class will include lecture and demonstration. While this class is perfect for beginners who are seeking to learn the fundamentals of painting, the lessons and projects will be geared toward individual skill and interest levels and is suitable for intermediate art students. Students will learn the basics of color theory, proper application of paint, and fundamentals of composition and design. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. All supplies included. Artist’s Bio: Arnulfo, aka “Arnold” or “Nuffy”, is a native of Santa Paula, California, which is located about an hour north of Los Angeles.  He has had multiple successes in both the athletic and art fields. Instructor: Emma Traylor Students will make the following projects with a food theme:  Sandwich Trinket Box, Watermelon Cup, Avocado Bowl, and Berry Pendants or Earrings. Artist’s Bio: Emma C. Traylor is an artist who works primarily with digital and film photography and ceramics. She earned her BFA from the University of North Texas majoring in Studio Art with a focus in Ceramics, and is currently working on her Masters of Fine Art with a 3D focus at Liberty University. Emma was born and raised in the DFW area in Texas and currently lives in Lynchburg, VA with her husband. Emma’s ceramic work is largely hand built life-sized figurative sculptures, but she also enjoys making unique functional pieces. Her photography focuses on the hidden special moments that go unseen in daily life.

Young Actors: A Golden Trip to Neverland

Instructor: Nora Moore In this week-long introduction to theatre camp for young actors, children will learn theatre basics and perform a small show at the end of the week. Parents are invited to see the short performance in the Warehouse Theatre on June 19 at 12:00pm. About the show: In this Fractured Fairytale, Peter Pan and The Frog Prince are combined to create a story unlike any other! Wendy is a Princess, with three siblings, who finds a frog in her basement. With a little magic, that frog transforms in Peter Pan and everyone is off on an adventure to Neverland! Filled with some of the classic Peter Pan characters you love alongside some new characters you’ve never met before, this script provides great opportunities for younger actors to explore creating character, memorizing lines, or simply getting used to using a script.

Teen Wheel Throwing

Instructor: Justin Rice All skill levels welcome, from first timers to seasoned teen ceramics veterans. Feel clay between your finger tips and explore creating 3 dimensional forms in the round. This class is open to making functional as well as sculptural forms made of wheel thrown components. Students will learn the process from start to finish – forming, glazing and firing. Artist’s Bio: Justin Rice is a multi disciplinary artist working with drawing, printmaking, woodworking and ceramics. He earned his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, majoring in Drawing with a concentration in Printmaking. His large scale drawings, woodblock prints and etchings explore the narrative world of graphic mark making.  Justin is a founding member and co-owner of Oxide Pottery in Lynchburg VA. He has been a full time potter and instructor for 10 years. His work is carried in galleries and museum shops across the United States, most notably: Museum of Art and Design NY, Baltimore Museum of Art, American Folk Art Museum, Boston Museum of Fine Art and American Visionary Art Museum. Intro to Technical Theatre

Instructors: Emily Parker, Michael Chagnon, Christine Yepsen, & Arnulfo Jacinto Experience hands-on what happens backstage during this week-long “Introduction to Technical Theatre” camp! Students will learn the kinds of technical skills needed to put on a full production including lighting, scenic, sound, stage management, and safe rigging practices to implement the designs. This camp is a must for any student interested in what it takes to make the magic of theatre come alive on stage! Art Made Easel-y

Instructors: Elise Spontarelli & Arnulfo Jacinto Students will work with a variety of materials, including metal, textiles, and wood, to build a portable folding chair and an art easel. Camp curriculum will include bending and joining metal, sewing and riveting fabric, and cutting, drilling, sanding, and joining wood. Once complete these items will become tools for plein air painting! Students will spend the first three days of the camp at Vector Space to build their chairs and easels, and the last two days of the camp learning plein air painting with the guidance of an Academy painting instructor, weather permitting. Students may also have the opportunity to paint outside at the Community Market on the Saturday after camp ends, weather permitting. Artist’s Bio, Elise Spontarelli: Elise loves vectors. She’s made an entrepreneurial career rendering lines, arcs, and polygons, and since cofounding Vector Space, the addiction has only gotten worse. You’ll often find Elise giving her designs life by vinyl cutting, laser engraving, and silk screening. When she’s not enthralled by graphics, you’ll find her in the wood shop making toys and home decor.
