1962 – THE BEGINNING
In September 1962, the dream of the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center was realized as a cultural hub for many performing arts organizations, artisans and musicians, and countless students. The center operated until 2003, when the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center closed its doors and merged with the Academy of Music, an organization that was working to restore our Historic Theatre here in downtown Lynchburg. From this merger, the Academy Center of the Arts was born. In 2018, the Historic Theatre re-opened its doors after decades of closure.
2022 – THE PRESENT
This fall, we continue the Academy’s mission of serving our community through arts and culture. Across two theatres, a pottery studio, arts classrooms, and even a converted school bus bringing arts instruction to all, the Academy continues the legacy of the original Lynchburg Fine Arts Center. The Academy also understands the importance of caring for our facilities, investing $120,000 annually into the maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of our buildings.
