Before the Show

What is the dress code?

While going to the Academy Center of the Arts is certainly a special occasion, there is no required dress code, unless otherwise stated, other than we do require shoes and shirts. You’ll probably be most comfortable in casual business attire, but you’ll often see people in jeans, khakis, and sometimes even shorts. Some guests enjoy dressing up and making a special night of it, and you can too, but most of all we want our guests to be comfortable.

When should I arrive?

We recommend planning your travel so that you arrive in downtown Lynchburg no later than 30 minutes before show time. You should then budget about 15 minutes maximum to park and walk to the theater. There is nothing worse than having to rush to the theater and then arrive just as the doors close for the start of the show. Our lobby doors open 60 minutes prior to show time. With the schedule we recommend above, you’ll arrive with plenty of time to find your seat, get settled, or enjoy a pre-show drink or a light snack.

If the weather is bad, will you cancel a performance?

Unless the government imposes travel restrictions impacting Lynchburg or performers are unable to get to the theater, the show will go on. Check our website as well as our Twitter and Facebook pages for weather-related updates.

How do I get to the Academy Center of the Arts?

Our main address for the campus is 600 Main Street, Lynchburg, Virginia 24504.

Parking is available on-site and throughout downtown Lynchburg.  We suggest utilizing the Lynchburg Grand Hotel parking deck or the Pacific Life lot, which are both free to Academy patrons after 5PM and on the weekends.

To view a parking map or to learn more about parking options, please visit this page.

Can I bring my kids?

Our staff recommends that children under the age of 5 years not attend adult performances. Please consider our family programs for young children.

Regardless of age, everyone in a seat must have a ticket. Any child under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

What is will call and where is it?

Will Call is located at the venue Box Office and is for patrons who ordered tickets by phone or online within 3 hours of the performance or when a patron requests us to hold tickets for pick up until the day of the show.

Unless specifically posted, Will Call tickets may be picked up from the venue Box Office window right up to the day of the performance. On show days, the Box Office is open for “will call” and same-day performance sales until the end of first intermission or 30 minutes after a performance begins when there is no intermission.

Do I need to print out my physical tickets if I chose print-at-home?

You may either print your ticket or show your ticket on your mobile device when choosing print-at-home as an option.

Printer issues, phone battery issues, cracked screen, or not using a smart device? No problem. Simply visit the venue Box Office on arrival. You’ll want to have your ID handy and order number to reprint your ticket.

I lost my tickets or I never received them. What do I do?

If tickets are lost or you never received by email, please call our Box Office at (434) 846-8499. Replacement tickets may be reprinted right up to the day of the performance by visiting the venue Box Office. You’ll want to have your ID handy and order number to reprint your ticket.

During a performance

Can I record the performance?

Videography and audio recording during the performances is prohibited.

Photography of the set on stage is allowed pre-show, post-show, and during intermission. But we do ask that you show our designers and visiting performers some love by crediting them (and by tagging us) in your social media posts.

How long does my event or performance last?

Most shows usually last one to two hours, and many have an intermission. The show time will be listed on the event on our website, as well as on your tickets.

Can I still be seated if I arrive late?

We’re really great at making sure everyone gets to their seat and doesn’t miss a second of the excitement. If you’re not in your seat at the start of a performance, you may be asked to wait to enter the theater. In some instances, delayed seating may not take place until intermission. Late seating times are established by each artist working with our house management staff. Please allow extra time when traveling to the venue to ensure you have plenty of time to get to your seat before the performance begins.

Read our House Rules for more info on late seating.
