Academy Center of the Arts Announces July 2018 Riverfront Park Concert Artists

ACADEMY CENTER OF THE ARTS ANNOUNCES JULY 2018 RIVERFRONT PARK CONCERT ARTISTS

The Academy Center of the Arts, through the support of Centra Health, is excited to announce the third concert of the 2018 Riverfront Park Concert Series, which features national, regional, and local music acts performing in Riverfront Park, 1100 Jefferson St. This event will continue the Academy’s efforts to serve our community through arts and culture by bringing world-class music to our city’s beautiful downtown park.

The Academy Center of the Arts will continue the 2018 Riverfront Park Concert Series on Saturday, July 14, 2018, with headlining artists The Spin Doctors and Arrested Development.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Spin Doctors’ landmark debut album Pocket Full of Kryptonite, the band’s four original members, front man Barron, guitarist Eric Schenkman, bassist Mark White, and drummer Aaron Comess, can still appreciate the uncanny, enduring musical rapport that’s allowed them to maintain the upbeat energy and restless creativity that first endeared them to their fiercely devoted fan base.

“When you get the four of us in one room, things just start to happen,” Schenkman asserts. “It instantly feels like the old days. The identity of the group asserts itself. That’s a great feeling, and it reminds us that the four of us belong together.”

The current 20th-anniversary tour affords Spin Doctors fans the opportunity to re-experience the body of material that first brought them together. “Going out and playing this record feels amazing,” Comess says. “Records that stand the test of time are the ones that come from an honest place, and this one certainly does just that. It still feels great playing these songs.”

It’s been twenty years since a new group called Arrested Development slammed the gangsta dominated world of hip hop with defiant lyrics of hope and became the first ever hip-hop artist to receive the “best new artist” Grammy. After taking a brief hiatus, Arrested Development re-emerged with a new lineup of band members and new album, “Heroes of the Harvest”, and has performed sold-out concerts in every part of the world since. They continue to release new music and find new success in different corners of the globe. Their shows are “a celebration of life”, and it is said that experiencing an Arrested Development concert is an uplifting and spiritual event wrapped into one big party.

The Academy Center of the Arts has set out to make the Riverfront Park concerts as accessible as possible by offering affordable general admission ticket prices. General admission tickets are on sale for $11.00, with fees and taxes included.

In addition to general admission tickets, VIP tickets are also available for $53.00. The VIP ticket option includes access to a covered seating area in close proximity to the stage, access to VIP-only bar, two free drink tickets, a Riverfront Park Concert Series koozie, and light refreshments provided by {RA} Bistro. All tickets include taxes and fees in the advertised price.

Gates open at 5:00pm for happy hour. Music (opening artist TBA) begins at 7:00pm. Arrested Development will perform at 8:00pm. The Spin Doctors will play at 9:00pm.

Seating for this event is not provided. Attendees seeking seating options are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Food and beverage (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) vendors will be onsite.

Parking for this event is available throughout downtown Lynchburg. For more information on parking, visit https://academycenter.org/parking-and-directions/.

This event is sponsored by Centra Health, Blue Ridge Beverage Company, Inc., WSET ABC-13, {RA} Bistro, Pepsi, and The City of Lynchburg, Virginia.
