During her summer visit with her grandparents, Evey Fallwell, a 12-year-old Dallas, Texas native, recently discovered her love for pottery after attending a summer pottery camp at the Academy Center of the Arts.
Evey’s love of art began by taking courses in school and practicing hand-building with clay at home wherever she could.
“I started out making hand-built clay animals like dogs, pigs, and swans,” said Evey, “and now can do so much more on the wheel.”
Evey’s first attempt at wheel throwing began not one-month ago during her visit to Lynchburg after her grandparents enrolled her in a pottery camp. Now, “Evey is a natural at the pottery wheel who has quickly found her niche,” said Ted Batt, Director of Visual Arts.
With over 12 pottery pieces created so far, Evey plans to attend one-on-one pottery lessons next week with Ted before she returns home to Texas. It’s Evey’s hope that she too can find intimate classes and lessons like the Academy offers in her home town of Dallas.
