Deconstructing “Abbey Road”

Deconstructing Abbey Road     About the Show: [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI8JMgJPBTM]   Deconstructing Abbey Road A Multimedia Lecture Hosted by Beatleologist SCOTT FREIMAN Live!   Scott's presentation will transport you to Abbey Road Studio with tales of the Fab Four's recording sessions there. You'll experience Abbey Road like you never have before.   In Deconstructing Abbey Road, Beatleologist Scott Freiman has created one of his most in-depth “deconstructions.” Scott will take you on a track-by-track journey explaining the inspiration for the songs and their evolution in the studio.    The Beatles’ Abbey Road is a masterpiece filled with classic Beatles songs, such as Come Together, Something, and Here Comes the Sun.  George Martin told the Beatles to think “symphonically,” and they responded by creating the remarkable side two song suite.    Abbey Road was the last time that the Beatles recorded together at EMI Studios — soon-to-be-christened Abbey Road Studios after the album’s release. Despite the bittersweet atmosphere that surrounded the recording sessions, The Beatles’ outstanding songs and performances together with George Martin’s orchestrations produced an album that continues to be regarded as one of the best albums ever created.   The views and opinions expressed in the lectures are Mr. Freiman’s, and do not necessarily reflect the views of, nor imply approval from, endorsement of, or any affiliation with Apple Corps., The Beatles, or The Beatles estates.…

Opera on the James Presents: The Barber of Seville     The final production of Opera on the James’s 2019/2020 season is Gioachino Rossini’s great comic masterpiece The Barber of Seville.   Who doesn’t love a story about a barber with a talent for match-making? The story is simple: a handsome young nobleman is in love with an independent-minded young woman, who is kept under constant surveillance by her elderly (and ill-tempered) guardian. Enter the Barber, who, through various ruses—one of which includes a mountain of shaving cream—saves the day. Nationally and internationally acclaimed vocalists will converge in Lynchburg to present a night of comedy and beautiful belcanto singing. The cast includes soprano Tess Altiveros, baritone Steven Condy, tenor David Marguiles and, as the Barber himself, baritone Brian James Meyers, described by the NY Times as possessing a “buttery baritone voice.”  Acclaimed stage director, Dean Anthony and OOTJ principal conductor Peter Leonard round out the team, with OOTJ Tyler Young Artists taking on supporting roles.     Tickets: Zone 8: $20.00 Zone 7: $31.00 Zone 6: $51.00 Zone 5: $67.00 Zone 4: $87.00 Zone 3: $107.00 Zone 2: $127.00 Zone  1: $247.00   PLEASE NOTE THESE SEATING CONSTRAINTS: Orchestra Row…
