Instructor: Kim Clarke Go ahead and get a little dirty on Friday night! Couples, singles, and friends are welcome to join us at The Academy Center of the Arts Pottery Studio for an evening of fun, romance and throwing on the pottery wheel. Instructor Kim Clarke will walk you through the simple steps of throwing on the potter’s wheel with a Valentine’s themed project. Beer, wine, light snacks, clay and tools are included. Wear or bring clothes to change into that you don’t mind getting dirty. Preregistration is required. The $40 fee is per person and the event is for adults ages 18 and over.

Introduction to Kiln Fired Glass

Mosaic Madness

In this fun and fully interactive class, learn to make your own mosaic art pieces, with instructor, Kim Clarke. We will be working using the direct method. Choose from several project bases (mirror, address number plaques, frames etc). All bases and materials are included, along with colored glass, adhesives and grout. Use the wide array of colored glass and mirror tiles provided or bring in your own tiles, bases other fun items that can be used in mosaics. Great for beginners. **A $15 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first night of class. Artist Bio: Kim Clarke originally from California has been a teacher and artist for many years. She has an artistic style which is very fun and whimsical. Kim’s art pieces reside in galleries and private collections all over the world including France and Australia. Learn hand building and enjoy advanced projects according to skill level.   Artist’s Bio Prior to her current position as art teacher at Heritage High School, Ruth Glaze has taught full time as Professor of Art at Judson College, Mississippi College, and Liberty University.  She received a Master of Education in Art from Mississippi College with a focus in pottery.  Exhibitions of her work include galleries in Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi. Ruth enjoys teaching as a means of sharing her excitement for the limitless creative opportunities provided through the medium of clay.

This class asks the big question : What do you want to make? Is it functional or sculptural? Are you interested in wheel throwing or handbuilding? Are you not sure how to even begin to answer those questions but have a desire to work with clay? Then let instructor Justin Rice help you find your way in the clay studio. This class is open to all skill levels, from the first time beginner to the advanced maker. Expand your knowledge and explore the possibilities of working with clay through personal projects and experimentation. Justin Rice is a multi disciplinary artist working with drawing, printmaking, woodworking and ceramics. He earned his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, majoring in Drawing with a concentration in Printmaking. Raku Workshop with Brett Thomas of Mobile Raku

The Academy Center of the Arts is pleased to partner again with Brett Thomas of Mobile Raku in hosting a two day Raku workshop on Friday, April 24 from 6:00pm – 8:30 pm and Saturday, April 25 from 9:30am – 2:00pm at the Academy Center of the Arts. Class size is limited to 20 students, and each student may bring 4-5 pieces (raku clay only bisque cone 06), approximately 5” wide x 12” tall or smaller. Small tiles are acceptable however NO BOWLS OR SLABS It is recommended that students are either enrolled in a pottery class or have experience working with clay. If time allows, additional pieces may be fired after everyone has had a turn.  Brett will provide his glazes and materials for firing. Please register early; pieces need to made and bisque fired before April 24. Students should plan to glaze their pieces before April 24 (the Academy will provide glazes). Class tuition is $85 which includes a 25lb bag of raku clay.  Students currently not enrolled in Academy Center pottery classes will have access to the studio to make their pieces. Unused raku clay from this class can be saved for the next Raku workshop! Come…
