
ACADEMY HOSTS VIRTUAL FIRST FRIDAYS EVENT TO BRING ARTS ACCESS TO ALL
(Lynchburg, VA) The Academy Center of the Arts hosts their upcoming First Fridays Exhibition, featuring the 2020 National Juried Art Exhibition, virtually on Friday, April 3, 2020, at 5:00 PM. Venture through the Virtual Exhibition in 360 video or view photos of each juried art piece online by visiting the Academy’s Facebook page or their website online at academycenter.org/first-fridays-virtual.
“While our galleries are currently closed to the public as COVID-19 impacts our community, it is important that the arts and our artist’s work remain accessible,” said Ted Batt, Director of Visual Arts. “We invite you to join us online and experience this month’s gallery exhibit virtually.”
In addition to being able to view the 2020 National Juried Art Exhibition, viewers will also find footage of the 2020 National Juried Art Juror, Jeffery W. Allison, sharing his ‘Art Talk’ and awarding cash prizes for the exhibition.
Jeffery Allison is the Paul Mellon Collection Educator and Manager of Statewide Programs and Exhibitions at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He is also a professional photographer. Jeffrey has acted as a technical consultant for numerous museums, art centers, and festivals, including The Chrysler Museum, Hollins University, and William King Museum of Art. Most recently, Jeffrey curated the exhibition, How Far Can Creativity Take You: VMFA Fellowship Artists, the inaugural VMFA on the Road artmobile exhibition.
The Annual National Juried Art Exhibition at the Academy Center of the Arts opened on Friday, April 3, 2020. The exhibition encompassed a wide variety, including oil paintings, clay, mixed media paintings and sculpture, wood, fiber, woodcuts, and collage. Over $5000 in cash awards was presented to ten artists. Cash Awards sponsors for the Exhibition are the Academy Center of the Arts, Royal County Arts, Christian DePaul, and Blackwell Press.
