The Academy Artist Expansion Initiative

About

The Emerging Artists Committee is composed of Academy staff members and community volunteers who adjoin quarterly. Each member presents up to three total artists for consideration at each meeting, creating a vibrant myriad of creators. After being chosen, artists have a month to host their work in the Academy’s spaces.

The goal of the Academy Artist Expansion Initiative is to expand both the artists the Academy showcases in their galleries and the experience of gallery visitors. The program is open to artists working in any media, regardless of artistic practice, gender, age, background, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and all levels of education.

Approach

This will be done by connecting with developing artists who have not yet had the advantage of having their works displayed through a formal gallery show and putting a priority on showcasing the work of established artists of color who may not have had their work displayed in the Academy in the past or with regularity.

Artists will be identified, recruited, and selected by The Emerging Artists Committee, a committee composed of Academy staff and community volunteers. This committee will meet quarterly.
