On April 7, the Academy Center of the Arts’ new Executive Director, Cyrus Pace, got to work. After a comprehensive search for the right leader to guide the Academy into its next decade and beyond, Pace stood out for his deep experience in the performing arts and his passion for local arts programming.
Pace previously worked as Executive Director for the Jefferson Center in Roanoke and also teaches in the Arts Leadership program at Virginia Tech.
What This Means for The Academy
The Academy Center of the Arts is more than a performing arts center—it is a cultural hub where artists, students, and creatively inspired community members can connect, learn, and hone their skills. With Pace’s arts education background, and specifically his passion for bringing the arts to our youngest community members, he is well-poised to guide the Academy in our mission to deliver creative and educational programming that supports a thriving region.
Since stepping into the role, Pace has spent his first weeks doing what he believes is essential groundwork—listening. From conversations with staff and to meetings with community partners and local stakeholders, his focus is on understanding the rhythms, needs, and opportunities within Lynchburg’s arts community.
Honoring Academy Legacy and Welcoming New Leadership
Over the weekend, the Academy brought together community members, resident arts partners, and supporters at a special event welcoming Pace. The gathering offered a chance to celebrate the meaningful work that has built and sustained the Academy, while also looking ahead to its continued growth. Set on the historic theatre stage, the evening created a sense of momentum as Pace begins laying the groundwork for the months ahead.
Guests heard from Academy Center of the Arts Board President James W. Wright and former CEO Geoffrey Kershner, both of whom shared their excitement for the Academy’s future and their support for Pace in the months ahead. The evening concluded with remarks from Pace and continued conversation among Academy stakeholders.
