First Fridays – February 2025

Time: February 7 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Venue: Ann White Academy Gallery

Join us for an evening at the Academy Center of the Arts as we honor the life and legacy of Violet Mitchell, a dynamic African-American art collector whose passion for the arts continues to inspire!

On this special First Friday, we proudly present The Violet Mitchell Collection—a stunning selection of artworks from her collection. This retrospective offers an opportunity to view and acquire pieces that embody her deep appreciation for artistic expression and artists from the African Diaspora.

Complementing this showcase is renowned Richmond artist Norman Wyatt Jr. A Virginia native and graduate of Virginia State University in Visual Communications, his work captures the essence of coastal, botanical, and abstract landscapes. Residing in Virginia with his family, Wyatt continues to craft art that resonates with audiences nationwide. His works will be featured in the Up Front Gallery, creating a vibrant dialogue between contemporary artistry and Violet Mitchell’s cherished collection.

Enjoy an evening of refreshments, live music, and the transformative power of visual art as we celebrate the enduring legacy of Violet Mitchell, the work of Norman Wyatt Jr., and the celebration of Black culture in our venue.

The Academy Center of the Arts is proud to present a new gallery exhibition each month featured in our Academy Galleries.
