The Polymer Clay Marionette Making Class Series is perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike. This series meets once a week, offering a fun and creative introduction to the magic of marionette making.

Whether you’re new to working with polymer clay or looking to refine your skills, this class is for you. We’ll guide you through the process of crafting intricate and charming marionettes, from the basics to more advanced techniques, in a friendly and supportive environment.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • The essential materials and tools for working with polymer clay
  • Basic sculpting techniques
  • Step-by-step methods for creating marionette parts, such as heads, hands, and feet
  • Tips for painting and finishing your marionettes
  • Techniques for assembling and stringing your marionettes to bring them to life

By the end of the series, you’ll have created a personalized marionette and gained the confidence to continue exploring the art of polymer clay.

We’ll provide all the materials you need, but you’re welcome to bring along:

  • Snacks and drinks
  • Your favorite sculpting tools if you have them
  • A sketchbook or journal to record ideas, information, and inspiration

For Elementary & Middle School students taking our Marionette class, the following Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) are integrated into our Polymer Clay Marionette Making Class. These standards emphasize the creative process, skill development, and mastering intricate techniques. These tools are essential for nurturing well-rounded and confident artists in our visual arts programs!

 h) Maintain and use a process art portfolio (e.g., sketchbook/journal and digital or traditional working portfolio) for planning and as a resource in the artmaking process.
 

Critical Thinking and Communication
