Summer of Rock

For two weeks, young musicians in beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels will be placed into bands and given private instruction and group lessons from talented local musicians. Students will choose their instrument and each rock band will consist of up to 5 band members playing keyboard, bass guitar, electric guitar, drums, and vocals. Students will improve their talents individually and collectively as they learn to jam in groups and prepare performances. Summer of Rock will end with a live student rock show in the Academy Historic Theatre! Using our SignUpGenius by clicking the Register link, please sign up for the instrument you wish to audition for. After auditions, instructors will place students into beginner, intermediate, and advanced level rock bands. If your child is placed into a band, you will then receive registration and payment information. Acquire glass cutting skills and learn the basics of firing and slumping while creating projects in glass. Possible projects include sun catchers, bowls, vases and many others. Instructor: Arnulfo Jacinto This class is designed for beginner to advanced students who are seeking to express themselves through art while learning and building upon the basic principles and foundations of drawing, including grades of paper and pencils, light and shadow, and perspective. Basic life drawing and understanding of the human anatomy will be introduced by using wood figure models, photographs, and other reference materials. Students will work on drawing the skeletal and muscular structures of the human body and will gain an understanding of proportion, scale, and foreshortening. Because each student is unique, projects may be altered and one-on-one instruction will be given to suit each student’s skills, talents, knowledge, and interest level. Students will be encouraged to produce at least one illustration that will be matted and suitable for framing. The Academy Center of the Arts is pleased to partner again with Brett Thomas of Mobile Raku in hosting a one day Raku workshop on Saturday, June 15 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 pm at the Academy Center of the Arts. Class size is limited to 20 students, and each student may bring 4-5 pieces (raku clay only bisque cone 06), approximately 5” wide x 12” tall or smaller. Tiles are acceptable however NO BOWLS OR SLABS.   If time allows, additional pieces may be fired after everyone has had a turn.  Brett will provide his glazes and materials for firing. Please register early; pieces need to made and bisque fired before June 12. One day class tuition is $85 which includes a 25lb bag of raku clay.  Students currently not enrolled in Academy Center pottery classes will have access to the studio to make their pieces. Unused raku clay from this class can be saved for the next Raku workshop! Come join the firing party! REFUND POLICY 1.
