Lynchburg's Local Arts Center
The Academy Center of the Arts campus is anchored by the Historic Academy of Music Theater, originally built in 1905. From the time it opened and well into the 1920s, the Academy of Music Theatre was the focal point for entertainment in Lynchburg.
With help from our generous donors, the theatre underwent renovations and restoration from 2015 – 2018. The Academy re-opened the Historic Academy of Music Theatre on December 6, 2018.
The restored theatre is accessible from Main St., and includes seating for 835 patrons, a newly constructed lobby, and a new drive for easy drop-off and pick-up from Main St.
