ACOA & WNRN Present: An Evening with Shakey Graves & Buffalo Hunt

Time: December 18 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Venue: Historic Academy Theatre
Cost: $29 – $87

Shakey Graves, born Alejandro Rose-Garcia, is a captivating and genre-defying musician hailing from Austin, Texas. With a distinctive blend of folk, blues, and rock, Shakey Graves has carved out a unique niche in the music industry.

Across his career, Shakey Graves has intentionally created thrilling musical adventures tailored to each fan: burning CDs and putting them in personalized decorated bags; building intricate scavenger hunts that send fans in search of unique tapes; and Bandcamp-exclusive releases.

“The fans and musicians that really resonate with me—and the inexplicable ways that I find things that I like—are usually entirely through randomness and chaos and accident,” Rose-Garcia says. “I’ve always been on this quest to make people feel like my own music is a choose your own adventure.”

As Rose-Garcia releases his new Shakey Graves album Movie of the Week—a collection of songs whittled down from epic-length recording sessions—he has devised one of his most innovative musical adventures yet. “For the album release, I’m setting up a website,” he says. “On this website, there will be a way to shuffle a collection of alternate tracks and unique songs from the sessions in seemingly infinite combinations to create new albums.” Thanks to this cutting-edge technology, fans will be able to own this alternate version and do whatever they want with it—giving them control over the destiny of the music.

Buffalo Hunt

Buffalo Hunt is the songwriting moniker of Austin, TX, multi-hyphenate Stephanie Hunt, who when not acting, writing or hosting, is composing thoughtful “take-a-puff-and-put-on-the-headphones” kind of songs with lyrics that cleverly upend your expectations or surprise you with metaphor. Touting a sound that seamlessly blends psychedelic pop, Laurel Canyon-style songcraft and midcentury honky-tonk touches, she makes music you are meant to spend time with. An artistically formidable effort, her debut album “Ambitions of Ambiguity” is the sort of record that’s easy to love on first listen, while also being lauded by Rolling Stone, FLAUNT, Americana Highways, KUTX & The Austin Chronicle among others.

With additional appearances on songs with James Petralli (White Denim), Ghost Songs with Alex Maas and Christian Bland (of The Black Angels), Pope Coke, her outfit with Jazz Mills (Cowboy & Indian) and duets with her husband Shakey Graves, she’s proven a diverse collaborator with a wide palette of musical taste.

Now a mother, with a dose of new perspective, she approaches the next phase of Buffalo Hunt with a wide range of contributors, touring prospects and new music in tow.
