  Haunted Historic Theatre Tours Presented by Member One Credit Union and Watts Creative Studios     In 1911, the Historic Academy of Music Theatre was partially destroyed by a mysterious fire in the Manager’s apartment. Since then, the building just hasn’t felt the same. Join our staff and in-house paranormal team as we investigate the unexplainable happenings, murmurs, and ghosts that lurk in the wings during the month of October.   Every Wednesday in October, you can experience the chilling haunting of the Historic Theatre on our exclusive Haunted Theatre Tour! Be prepared for goosebumps, and remember: as long as you stay with the group, you’ll be just fine.   Tours are limited to 50 and run twice per night, at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. Remaining tickets will be released to the public on Thursday, August 1, 2019.     About the Show:   Direct from the Blackfriars Playhouse, the American Shakespeare Center on Tour delivers seriously fun Shakespeare to Lynchburg, VA!   ASC on Tour invites audiences to enjoy shows that are produced as Shakespeare’s company performed them – surrounded by audience members who share the same light with the actors, each of whom play multiple roles.  This highly interactive style allows ASC on Tour to forge a sense of community between performers and audience rarely found in theatre today and enables audiences to understand and enjoy these classic works.   In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare casts a theatrical spell powerful enough to make audiences of all ages believe in anything.   Met Opera Broadcast in HD: Manon     The Academy Center of the Arts has just announced the Metropolitan Opera HD Broadcast 19-20 season, featuring Massenet's Manon on Sunday, 10/27 at 2:00pm in the Historic Academy of Music Theatre.   Exhilarating soprano Lisette Oropesa stars as the irresistible title character, the tragic beauty who yearns for the finer things in life, in Laurent Pelly’s revealing production. Tenor Michael Fabiano is the besotted Chevalier des Grieux, whose desperate love for Manon proves their undoing. Maurizio Benini conducts Massenet’s sensual score.   A co-production of the Metropolitan Opera; Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London; Teatro alla Scala, Milan; and Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. Production a gift of The Sybil B. Instructor: Kim Clarke Ready to try your hand at the potter’s wheel? There will be helpful demonstrations and lots of hands-on time in this session. You will be learning the basics of wheel throwing, hand building, and surface decoration in this fun and casual class, taught by instructor Kim Clarke. You will get some tips and tricks that will help you create some beautiful pottery! This is a great way for you to take a break and explore your creative side in this fun introduction to clay. No experience needed! Tuition includes a 25 lb. bag of clay and glaze and firing costs. Artist Bio: Kim Clarke originally from California has been a teacher and artist for many years. She has an artistic style which is very fun and whimsical. Kim’s art pieces reside in galleries and private collections all over the world including France and Australia. Clay Lab – investigating the surface through material studies, clay science and experimentation. Open to all skill levels. “Further your understanding of clay as a raw material to realized object.”   Tuition includes a 25 lb. bag of clay and glaze and firing costs.  Instructor: Justin Rice   Justin Rice is a multi disciplinary artist working with drawing, printmaking, woodworking and ceramics. He earned his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, majoring in Drawing with a concentration in Printmaking. His large scale drawings, woodblock prints and etchings explore the narrative world of graphic mark making. Justin is a founding member and co-owner of Oxide Pottery in Lynchburg VA. He has been a full time potter and instructor for 10 years. His work is carried in galleries and museum shops across the United States, most notably: Museum of Art and Design NY, Baltimore Museum of Art, American Folk Art Museum, Boston Museum of Fine Art and American Visionary Art Museum. Justin’s current work at the Academy focuses on developing the tactile clay surface with the use of locally harvested materials in conjunction with the reduction atmosphere of the gas kiln.
