Welcome to First Friday at the Galleries
Join us this May for an evening of thought-provoking exhibitions that explore transformation, identity, and the meaning we create through everyday materials and experiences. From tactile collage and text-based work to abstract painting rooted in observation and change, this First Friday invites you to slow down, look deeper, and engage with art that challenges and inspires.
In the Up Front Gallery:
Erica Trabold: Nourishing Flourishes
In Nourishing Flourishes, Erica Trabold explores the tension between homemaking and artmaking through collage and fragmented text, transforming themes of food, care, and domestic labor into expressive, tactile works. Using found materials and image pairings, she creates layered compositions that reflect both the physical act of making and the evolving experience of motherhood—where exhaustion and wonder coexist.
“The meal in the frame is never meant to be eaten… offering something that nourishes imagination rather than obligation.”
In the Ann White Gallery:
Kaye Lipscomb: PARTS IS PARTS
Kaye Lipscomb’s abstract paintings examine transformation, perception, and the unseen forces that shape our understanding of the world. Inspired by organic forms and fleeting moments in nature, her work explores the relationship between fragmentation and wholeness, inviting viewers to interpret freely and uncover meaning beneath the surface.
“The aim… is to look beyond the surface… to examine and explore the parts as well as the whole.”
Together, Trabold and Lipscomb offer two distinct yet complementary approaches to exploring transformation and meaning—one grounded in the intimate, tactile language of everyday materials and lived experience, the other in abstraction and the unseen forces that shape perception. Their work invites viewers to slow down, look beyond the surface, and consider how meaning is constructed, deconstructed, and reimagined through both the personal and the universal.
Artist Talk: May 9 | 1–2 PM
Join Erica Trabold and Kaye Lipscomb for an engaging conversation about their work, creative processes, and the ideas behind their exhibitions. This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artists and gain deeper insight into the meaning behind their work. All are welcome.
