Up Front Gallery – Meredith Peverill “Histories”
Artist Statement
“For me, the past is like a piece of flint—no matter how many times my imagination strikes it, sparks come flying out.”
History serves as both subject and inspiration in Meredith Peverill’s paintings, where ordinary moments become windows into the lives of those who came before us. Drawing from field sketches, photographs, and visits to historic sites, her work captures those fleeting instances when time feels layered and the past seems unexpectedly present.
Through a combination of historical research, firsthand observation, and traditional painting techniques inspired by artists such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Van Eyck, Meredith creates richly detailed works that bridge past and present. Her paintings invite viewers to reflect on the enduring human experiences that connect generations, offering glimpses of history that feel both intimate and alive.
For Meredith, painting is a way of exploring the threads that tie us to the past, revealing moments when history feels close enough to reach out and touch.
