Storytelling in Photography
About This Class
In this project-based course, each student will choose a subject, idea, or experience and develop it into a cohesive photographic narrative. Students will plan, photograph, sequence, and present a series of images designed to work together rather than stand alone. Throughout the course, students will examine their photographs through group discussions and constructive critiques. They will identify what is communicating clearly, where the story is falling short, and which images need to be reconsidered or reshot. This process of photographing, reviewing, and refining will help students strengthen both their visual storytelling and their technical photography skills. Topics will include composition, light, timing, perspective, visual consistency, image selection, sequencing, and the relationship between individual photographs and the complete narrative. By the end of the course, each student will have created a thoughtfully edited photographic story and gained a stronger understanding of how intention, revision, and persistence can turn a collection of images into a meaningful body of work.
Please bring your own camera and equipment, including a tripod and any additional lenses or accessories you wish to use.
